Caroline has always had a passion for all things 1970’s and a flair for design. She studied Multimedia in the 2000’s but with the GFC she had an unsuccessful start to her career in this field. Rising from the ashes and after a few years working in office jobs she needed to get in back in touch with her creativity. She decided to try her hand at the popular 1970’s art form of Macrame and fell in love, she is self taught in this craft.
Caroline loves working within the constraints of the shapes and design elements knots can form, she loves to push boundaries and creating pieces that are unique and new within such an explored craft.
A lot of Caroline’s inspiration comes from cultural patterns, design, stories and her own childhood memories. She often begins the design process on the computer to get a basic idea of shape and the mathematics required for each design. But she also loves to work with a blank canvas drawing inspiration from her materials such as a piece of driftwood or naturally dyed cotton.
Caroline’s philosophy towards macrame is to create an emotion from her designs its not just about putting random knots on rope but to create a provoking image or pattern through shape and colour. She hopes to continue to grow in this craft and other fibre arts.
